I have 30 years experience of working therapeutically in the NHS, mainly with children and adolescents but also with adults to help people with their psychological, emotional and behavioural problems.
The first appointment often takes over an hour as I get to know you and your difficulties. This will include a full developmental history, experience of school and work, hearing about significant life events, understanding the role of other people in your life, and the history of the difficulties. I also use a range of questionnaires to assess the difficulties, and will share the outcome of these with you. This will enable me to develop a shared understanding of the problem, in relation to the factors that led you to be vulnerable, the situation that led to the problems and the factors that maintain it. Fully understanding your strengths will enable me to focus on these as a part of the treatment plan. Once we have developed your goals of therapy, we will decide together the therapeutic intervention that will suit you the best from your perspective, and has the most chance of success from my perspective. I often draft a letter outlining the above to share with you, and for you to share with others, so that we are sure that we totally agree on the understanding of your problem and our treatment plan.
I have been trained in the following therapies:
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) – I am an accredited CBT Therapist
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – I am an accredited DBT Therapist
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Adolescents
Process of therapy
I will offer you weekly sessions and will monitor your satisfaction with our therapy session at the end of every appointment, to ensure that I am on the right track and if not to modify my approach or method to best suit you. It is vital that we work well together, as this will increase the chance of a positive outcome. If needed, I am able to be flexible in my therapeutic approach, if the treatment plan does not suit you or our understanding of the problem changes during therapy.
My therapy room is based in Leaf Health, 29 Lloyd Street, Llandudno, where the rooms are comfortable and confidential. The clinic has a friendly receptionist, an airy waiting room, and access to toilet facilities. It is in the centre of Llandudno and thus easy to get to.
